Use the headings as your map.
Open the document in Zizeg—just double-click it in Finder if Zizeg is your default Markdown app. Click Table of Contents in the toolbar, then choose a heading to jump to that section.
The outline follows the document’s heading levels and highlights your current section as you scroll. It updates as you add or rename headings. Drag its divider to give longer section names more room, or click the toolbar button again to hide it.
A clear heading is easier to find again.
Use the document title for Heading 1, main sections for Heading 2, and subsections for Heading 3. Names such as “Reviewing changes” are easier to recognize in the outline than “More details.”

Choose a heading from the toolbar’s Style menu or the Format menu. You can also use ⌥⌘1 for Heading 1, or write the # markers directly in Source.
Download this short outline to try the navigation before using it in a longer document.
Know the wording? Search for it.
Press ⌘F or click Find in the toolbar and enter a word or phrase. Zizeg highlights matches in the active pane and brings the current match into view.
Press Return for the next match or ⇧Return for the previous one. Press Esc to close Find. Search in Preview for the readable text, or in Source when you want to include Markdown characters such as **.
Use Split and row numbers when you need the source.
Choose Split (⌘3) to see Source beside Preview. If Split is your default viewing mode, both panes open automatically. Click the active Split control again to swap their order.
Click Row Numbers beside Table of Contents in the toolbar to show or hide the Source gutter. The numbers help you refer to a particular source row while discussing or editing a document.
With synchronized scrolling enabled, selecting an outline heading moves both panes to the section. You can turn scroll synchronization on or off under Preferences → Editor.
Find the section, edit it, and move on.
For example, choose “Reviewing changes” in the outline, revise the paragraph in Preview or Source, then choose “Release checklist” to continue reading. You can use typing, shortcuts, toolbar controls, or the app menus in either editor; the two views stay in sync.
Editing and HTML or PDF export are available through a one-time unlock or an active subscription.
